Coastal & Forest Ecosystems
Restoring nature, protecting communities.
Back to Projects
Overview
Tanzania’s coastal ecosystems — mangroves, coral reefs, and forests — are vital for livelihoods and climate resilience. HEAL works with local communities to restore degraded areas, promote sustainable resource use, and establish alternative livelihoods to reduce pressure on forests.
Key Interventions
- Mangrove replanting along the Rufiji Delta and Bagamoyo coast
- Community forest management training and patrolling
- Establishment of tree nurseries and agroforestry
- Bee‑keeping as an alternative income for forest‑adjacent communities
- Beach clean‑ups and awareness campaigns on plastic pollution
