Overview

Tanzania’s coastal ecosystems — mangroves, coral reefs, and forests — are vital for livelihoods and climate resilience. HEAL works with local communities to restore degraded areas, promote sustainable resource use, and establish alternative livelihoods to reduce pressure on forests.

• Mangrove replanting along the Rufiji Delta and Bagamoyo coast
• Community forest management training and patrolling
• Establishment of tree nurseries and agroforestry
• Bee‑keeping as an alternative income for forest‑adjacent communities
• Beach clean‑ups and awareness campaigns on plastic pollution
